2013 Camp Freeland Leslie Staff

Time, and time again, campers tell us that it is the staff that separates our camp above the rest. The positive experience for both youth and adult scouts can only be created by you. When young scouts arrive at camp, they bring with them the sparks of personal growth, but like any good campfire, these sparks need to be fanned from all directions. That is where you come in. Together, we can challenge campers to overcome fear and empower them to be agents of positive change in their communities. With your leadership, they will experience success in everything from cooking their own meals to learning knots and lashings to create their first camp gadget. It is through your praise and encouragement that campers once afraid of heights eagerly scale the climbing wall.

ClimbBeing a CFL staff member, simply stated, is all about being a team player. A scout is helpful. While each staff member is assigned a specific camp staff position, each staff member is expected to use his or her strengths for the benefit of the entire team. Each staff member will have a different schedule and different set of responsibilities. That being said, each staff member will learn to put others' needs before their own by helping wherever needed. Staff members live in open air wooden cabins or canvas wall tents. Hot meals and snacks are provided. Staff members will be assigned to a themed program area in which they will teach and/or assist in several different classes. These classes follow a curriculum developed by previous staff members and can be built upon based on your own personal skills, hobbies, and experience. Each day will also include off time for relaxing and staff bonding.

Somehow, I can't believe that there are any heights that can't be scaled by a man who knows the secrets of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four C’s. They are curiosity, confidence, courage and constancy, and the greatest of all is confidence. When you believe a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable. Have confidence in your ability to do it right, and work hard to do the best possible job.
